Tide Design was established in Melbourne in 2007 by furniture designer and maker George Harper.
Having left an office career, George completed a Diploma of  Furniture Design and Making at Box Hill Institute of Tafe that year, and was awarded the prize for best furniture at the graduate exhibition.

Functionality and simplicity are guiding principles at Tide where inspiration is drawn from 1950's design, when the strict modernism of earlier years took on a softer, more organic feel.

George believes strongly in the role that detail plays in the overall aesthetic, and is committed to producing the highest quality, handmade, contemporary pieces, where the design is considered, well resolved and individual, providing lasting appeal.

Tide Direction

Individual pieces for individuals
Made-to-order Tide furniture is custom designed to your specific requirements in terms of materials, finish and dimensions. Tide pieces are only in limited production, so each has an exclusivity not possible with a mass-produced item.

A lifetime of satisfaction
The Tide design philosophy is one of longevity rather than the latest fad. All Tide pieces are intended to be timeless, and to look as fresh in ten years as they do today.  Not constrained to a particular era, Tide pieces will complement any interior and style.

A sustainable option
Tide furniture is mostly made from top quality North American timbers that come from forests considered to be the best managed in the world.  Each Tide piece is designed and manufactured to last a lifetime, providing an eco-friendly alternative to mass-produced and disposable furniture.

Commitment to a quality product
The highest quality materials, hardware and finishes are used at Tide, where every detail is carefully resolved and no short cuts are taken.  It is this commitment that produces the indefinable quality only achievable with individually handmade works.
